Changes to our variable tariff.

The name and price of our variable rate gas and electricity tariff will change on 1 January 2019.

Discounts for dual fuel, online billing and for paying by Direct Debit will be removed, however, the capped rate reflects customers’ payment method. The name of the tariff will change from Rate Watch to Standard.

Here are answers to some common questions about the Standard price change.

Why are my rates changing?

We always do our best to secure the best rates for our customers.

The price has been aligned to the new government price cap for standard variable or default tariffs. The price cap ensures that the unit price you pay for your gas and electricity is justified based on what it costs to get energy to you. You can have peace of mind that you are paying a fair price for your energy.

By how much will the price increase?

Based on Ofgem’s medium consumption levels, for a dual fuel customer paying by Direct Debit the price has decreased by an average of 6.8%. Gas prices will decrease by 8.2% and electricity prices by 7.7%. A dual fuel household with typical usage will see annual bills fall from £1,219 to £1,137 /year.

What are my new rates?

Existing customers – You will receive a letter or email from us on or before 2 December 2018 to let you know what your new gas and electricity rates are.

New customers - If you have recently registered to switch your gas or electricity to our Rate Watch (Standard) tariff and your supply start date is before 1 January, you will join on our current rates. You’ll automatically switch over to the new rates on 1 January. We’ll also send you a letter or email to notify you of the change in your rates.

If you have recently registered to switch supply to our Rate Watch (Standard) tariff and your supply start date is after 1 January, you will automatically join on our new rates.

When will I be charged at the new rates?

The new rates will be applied on 1 January 2019.
